We strive to love–LIKE JESUS–in the Dominican Republic
Everyday Care
Everyday life is extremely challenging for many people in the Dominican Republic. They suffer from malnutrition, frequent bug bites, lack basic amenities and struggle to afford toys or food for their children. While The Saint Francis Project works on a plan to improve an entire community of impoverished people, we are currently providing relief by offering new beds, mosquito netting and coils, dolls and trucks for the children, vitamins for nutrition, food and materials/services to help with home improvements, especially to stop leaking roofs. We are also providing other essential items that they may need but cannot afford.
Health
When people lack access to basic necessities like healthy food, medicine, clean/dry shelter, safe neighborhoods, schools, air and water quality, communication, transportation, and sanitation, their health suffers. The Saint Francis Project aims to improve the quality of life for those in need by addressing their basic health requirements.
We provide nutritional supplements (vitamins) to replace the missing nutrients in people’s diets, enabling them to grow towards optimal health and function. We also aim to educate them on how and when to take these supplements and eat balanced food for overall wellbeing. To learn more about our projects and contribute to our cause, please click here.
Pet Care
Pets in the Dominican Republic are struggling just like their owners due to the lack of basic necessities such as food and medical care. Unfortunately, while some resources are available for people in need, the same cannot be said for their animals. The Saint Francis Project is here to help by providing much-needed food and regular medical care for these neglected pets. We are opening an animal care facility, bringing over doctors, nurses, and medical supplies to care for their needs.
Additionally, we are educating and instructing a few residents of the Dominican Republic on basic pet care so they can assist their community in restoring the health of needy animals when out of country volunteers are not available. But, we need your help to make all of this possible. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these animals so they do not have to suffer like this. Education
Many children living in extreme poverty do not have access to education. They roam the streets or are left alone at home alone while their parents work hard to make ends meet. Sadly, for most children in dire poverty, schools are not within reach, as they are either too expensive, too far away, or do not accept children who are not citizens. Education could have enabled them to acquire skills and break the cycle of poverty, but instead, if something does not change, they are doomed to continue living in the same desperate situation as their parents.
The Saint Francis Project is working with another local charity to improve the lives of underprivileged children and young adults by providing primary education and teaching vocational skills. Learn More
Housing
Access to safe and dry housing is a fundamental right that every human being deserves. However, in the Dominican Republic, much of the impoverished population are forced to reside in shacks made of sticks and tin with dirt floors without water or sanitation facilities. Due to the fact that many of these individuals do not own the land they inhabit, building permanent brick and mortar homes is not feasible. To help with this housing crisis, the Saint Francis Project is formulating a plan to provide the needy with an acceptable place to live. Spiritual
Grace is real. We all respond differently to our lack of grace. But when someone rejects much of God’s grace, they miss out on many of the blessings that God has intended for them in this life and beyond. Without adequate grace, God’s children cannot experience a constant state of peace in all circumstances, regardless of our crosses, that God wants to give us.
“The Lord of peace himself give[s] you peace at all times” (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
It is important to remember that we are saved by grace, as mentioned in Ephesians 2:8. This grace is what gives us true faith in Jesus. Without sufficient grace, God’s children will lack the necessary faith, that of true love of God and true contrition for their sins, to accept Jesus’s forgiving and saving mercy, which He died to give them. This will ultimately lead to them rejecting an eternity with God in perfect happiness and choosing an eternity of suffering instead. Therefore, it is crucial to incorporate spiritual works of mercy into our corporal works of mercy as a part of the Saint Francis Project. Learn More
